The Easiest Way to Visit Peyto Lake If you're short on time or just don't want to (or physically can't do any trekking), you're in luck. Peyto Lake has a viewing platform, making access to those perfect views a breeze.

Peyto Lake is a stunning lake that can be found in Banff National Park, which itself resides in the picturesque Canadian Rockies. The lake is notable for its dazzling blue colour, and has been the subject of many pictures because of just how mesmerising it looks.

Peyto Lake is located on the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) between Lake Louise and Jasper. Currently, the only way to get there is by driving, unless you book a tour that stops there. You can't see the lake from the highway, but the turn off is well marked with signs and there's a parking lot.

This past year, Peyto froze around November 16 (some years it freezes earlier, but other years it freezes completely at the end of November), and we were fortunate enough to be able to skate on it before it was covered in snow.

There are two factors when looking for accommodation in the Banff National Park area close to Peyto Lake: weather and budget. Weather permitting, we recommend camping in one of the well equipped campgrounds along the route. Silverhorn Creek and Mosquito Creek campgrounds are the closest to Peyto Lake.
